About
Description
The Massapequas, comprised of Massapequa and Massapequa Park, are two towns with a rich history and deep Native American roots. Located in the town of Oyster Bay, on Long Island, New York, these towns have a combined population of over 75,000 people according to the 2010 census. Massapequa Park, being an incorporated village, has its own zip code, but both towns are closely intertwined and often considered as one.
Massapequa's history dates back to 1658 when it was purchased by merchants from the Lenape, a local Native American group. During the 1900s, Massapequa was a small town with a population of 3,000, and most residents worked as farmers or in nearby aircraft plants during World War II. An interesting note is that John Burns Park was converted into a cornfield to feed the soldiers in the 1960s.
The Massapequas website aims to provide valuable information and resources to the residents of these great towns, including news, business directories, school districts, parks, weather updates, public libraries, and more. Explore the website and delve into the fascinating history of the Massapequas
