# The Moving Sea

- **Website:** <https://themovingsea.org>
- **Primary alias:** `themovingsea.org`

## Description

The Moving Sea creates visual stories of tides, currents and shipping using open data. Beginning with the Scheldt, the port of Antwerp and the Belgian coast, its coverage extends across the southern North Sea, Europe, North America and the world ocean. The site offers a library of 88 videos that make marine movement easier to see and understand.

Its visualisations include tidal-current forecasts and modelled or measured flows, ship traffic traced from AIS data, and stream-atlas views of ports and waterways. Featured locations include the Scheldt and Antwerp, Zeebrugge, the Belgian coast and Rotterdam, as well as wider waters such as the Dover Strait. The Moving Sea also presents scenario-based simulations, including oil-spill drift, an LNG-terminal incident and the movement of a person or life raft overboard.

Videos are built from measurements, hydrodynamic models and official stream atlases, drawing on sources such as Rijkswaterstaat, Flanders Hydraulics Research, Copernicus Marine Service and community AIS receivers.
