The Obesity Collective is Australia's peak body for obesity, dedicated to reducing the health and wellbeing impacts of obesity in the country. Comprised of a diverse network of experts in obesity prevention and treatment, as well as social change and community leaders, the Collective aims to transform our understanding of obesity and address related challenges. By working together, they raise awareness of the science and reality of obesity and promote evidence-based prevention and treatment action. The Obesity Collective operates through a strong, cooperative, and inclusive network. They focus on systems-level projects that evolve annually, including sharing the latest evidence and research, advocating for national obesity strategies and guidelines, addressing weight stigma, developing thought leadership reports and presentations, supporting research initiatives, and campaigning to reduce stigma in healthcare and society as a whole. Their vision is an Australia where healthy communities prioritize health and wellbeing, and weight and obesity are treated as collective responsibilities, free from stigma and shame. Their mission is to achieve this by working towards a whole-of-society response to obesity and addressing weight stigma through collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and research. With over 900 members from diverse organizations, the Obesity Collective is committed to leaving their agendas at the door and collaborating on equal footing. They strive to fight weight stigma by recognizing its harmful impact and advocating for a whole-of-society approach that considers the complex drivers of obesity. By building a movement, community, and shared understanding, the Obesity Collective aims to increase community demand and participation in a whole-of-society response to obesity. They work to create a new narrative around obesity that reduces stigma, improves understanding of the science, and shifts focus to collective action and policy change. Supported by the Obesity Australia Board, which consists of leaders in public affairs, politics, health, and public policy, the Obesity Collective mobilizes its members and expertise to support collective action, systems change, and shape future policy decisions. Together, they are transforming the way society thinks, speaks, and acts on obesity.
