## Description

Free Oakland UP is a brand based in Oakland, CA, focused on fostering a sustainable community and promoting local sustainability. As a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, their mission is to encourage the sharing of resources, recycling of gardening materials, and the reduction of landfill waste. One of their notable initiatives was the annual Plant Exchange, which became the largest plant swap event in the US, attracting over 1000 community members. This event not only allowed people to exchange plants but also facilitated skill-sharing and education about sustainable gardening practices. While the founder and Executive Director, Odette Pollar, retired and The Plant Exchange has closed as of May 1, 2023, the brand remains a valuable resource for those interested in starting similar projects. For inquiries and information, you can reach out to them via email at CONNECT@THEPLANTEXCHANGE.COM or call 510-866-8482. Free Oakland UP is committed to promoting a greener and more sustainable Bay Area.
