## Description

SMART (Safe Mercury Amalgam Removal Technique) is an innovative protocol established by the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (IAOMT), aimed at enhancing safety and integrity in dental practices. This evidence-based set of recommendations is grounded in extensive scientific research, providing valuable resources for both patients and dental professionals.

The IAOMT serves as a trusted academy comprising allied health professionals dedicated to ensuring that dental amalgam fillings are removed safely. By utilizing SMART-certified techniques, patients can confidently inform their dentists of their preference for safe removal practices, safeguarding their health during the process.

Alongside these removal techniques, the IAOMT offers training and guidance for healthcare providers to adopt preferred procedures that emphasize safety in amalgam replacement. They also provide a referral service to help patients find IAOMT member doctors in their area. With a commitment to clear scientific information, the IAOMT empowers individuals to make informed decisions about their dental care.
