Welcome to The Steel Yard, a non-profit industrial art center and shared studio located in Providence, RI. We specialize in offering courses and educational programs in blacksmithing, welding, jewelry, foundry, and ceramics. Whether you're looking to learn a new skill or expand your knowledge in the arts, we have a program for you. We believe that everyone should have access to art education, which is why we offer subsidized fees, scholarships, and even paid opportunities to develop your skills. In addition to our educational programs, our public projects department fabricates functional and design-driven public art installations throughout Southeastern New England. You can find our decorative bike racks, trash cans, benches, fences, and custom metal sculptures at businesses, main streets, waterways, parks, schools, and public spaces across the region. We also offer an artist residency program for emerging and mid-level artists, providing full access to our studios and equipment. For under-employed Rhode Islanders, we have a welding job training program that pays participants to learn valuable skills and ultimately find better employment opportunities. Our award-winning campus spanning 3.8 acres is the perfect venue for both public and private events, as well as unique fundraisers like our annual Halloween Iron Pour. Come join our community of artists, makers, and learners at The Steel Yard. Funding for our initiatives is provided in part by grants from the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts, and private funders.
