The Story, a brand dedicated to preserving County Durham's rich history and offering registration services, invites you to embark on a journey through time. Our diverse collections of records and objects reveal thousands of years of everyday life in the county. Explore history from a new perspective at our free permanent and temporary exhibitions, or conduct research in our state-of-the-art facilities to uncover your own story. The Story is also the new home of the County Registration Service, recording important life events like births, deaths, marriages, and civil partnerships. Join us for workshops that educate and inspire, or become a volunteer to help share Durham's stories. With 600+ tonnes of historic material and 900+ years of records, The Story brings fact to life in ways more amazing than fiction.
