## Description

Street Spirit is an independent newspaper based in the East Bay, established in 1995, dedicated to shedding light on homelessness and poverty through the voices of those most affected. Focusing on original journalism, Street Spirit is sold by homeless vendors in Berkeley and Oakland, creating not only a source of income for them but also a platform for sharing personal stories, essays, and poetry. The publication highlights critical political and policy issues impacting the community, aimed at fostering understanding and dialogue about the homelessness crisis.

The editorial team, led by Editor Bradley Penner and Director Alastair Boone, is committed to maintaining editorial independence, ensuring that their reporting is free from donor influence while upholding transparency in all funding. Through initiatives like their vendor program, Street Spirit empowers unhoused individuals, making a meaningful impact in the local community. With a mission to illuminate the unique experiences of homelessness, Street Spirit is a vital resource for advocacy and awareness.
