## Description

The Thoreau Society, founded in 1941, is the largest and oldest organization dedicated to an American author. With members from over twenty countries, the Penobscot Nation, and all fifty states in the U.S., the Society is committed to diversity and inclusion. They welcome individuals of all ages, ethnicities, gender expressions and identities, physical abilities, races, religions, and sexual orientations. The Thoreau Society's mission is to stimulate interest in and promote education about Thoreau's life, works, legacy, and his place in both his world and ours. They challenge everyone to live a deliberate and considered life. Their vision is to keep Thoreau's writings and ideas alive across generations and around the globe. The Society offers various products and services, including publications like the Thoreau Society Bulletin and The Concord Saunterer, which provide extensive information and essays on Thoreau's life and work. They also have honorary advisors, officers, a board of directors, and opportunities for involvement and learning. By supporting The Thoreau Society, individuals can help preserve Thoreau Country and contribute to the legacy of Henry David Thoreau.
