About

Description

The Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation (TRF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to saving Thoroughbred horses that are no longer able to compete on the racetrack. Founded in 1983, the TRF is the oldest and largest Thoroughbred Rescue in the US, providing a lifetime of sanctuary to each horse in their herd. They offer sanctuary to rescued and retired racehorses who are unable to pursue a second athletic career.

In addition to their rescue efforts, the TRF is committed to creating positive change in the lives of both horses and humans. They have established a vocational training program in equine care and management for inmates at correctional facilities, allowing former inmates to develop skills and rebuild their lives. While many of the horses under the TRF's care retire to a quiet life of grazing in pastures, they have also successfully retrained and adopted out hundreds of horses to new homes.

These horses have gone on to become pets, competition horses, police mounts, and partners in equine-assisted therapy. The TRF relies on public contributions to ensure the long-term continuity of care for their retirees. They are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and 100% of their budget comes from generous individuals, businesses, and foundations.

By supporting the TRF, you can make a difference to a Thoroughbred in jeopardy and contribute to their mission of saving these magnificent animals
