## Description

Thread Lightly is a volunteer-run community initiative based in the Kaipātiki region of Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, Aotearoa. Founded by Hannah Bennett, it brings people together through a shared love of craft, creativity and waste reduction. Its events provide a free, welcoming place for sewists, makers and curious visitors to pass on and find materials for sewing and other handcrafts.

Like a clothing swap for craft supplies, Thread Lightly events redistribute donated fabric, patterns, wool, yarn, haberdashery and other useful items, helping keep them out of landfill and making them accessible to everyone. Donations are welcomed from individuals, retailers, wholesalers, fashion designers and community groups, with collection arrangements available. The initiative also works with charities that use donated materials to support people in the community.

Events pop up around Auckland and may include fabric swaps, workshops and demonstrations by local craft groups. Thread Lightly welcomes volunteers, event-hosting venues and collaborators, and encourages people to attend even if they have nothing to donate.
