## Description

The Tia Maria Foundation is a U.S.-registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in June 2024 to support students and recognize educators in memory of Maria M. Luis, affectionately known as Tia Maria. Inspired by her warmth, wisdom, and guidance to family and community, the foundation works to help ensure that financial circumstances do not prevent students from pursuing higher education. Its programs include scholarships, mentorship, and community events, as well as recognition for exceptional educators through an Educator of the Year award. The foundation supports young people as they move from high school toward college, careers, and independent life, with an emphasis on education, personal development, and meaningful community impact. It also partners with organizations and contributes to community initiatives. Since its founding, the foundation reports awarding three student scholarships and two educator scholarships, and mentoring six students. It welcomes scholarship applicants, donors, and community partners, and notes plans for a major scholarship program expansion in the 2026–27 school year.
