## Description

Tierschutz Austria, the public-facing brand of the Wiener Tierschutzverein, is Austria’s largest and oldest animal welfare organisation, working for animals since 1846. Its animal shelter in Vösendorf provides care and refuge for companion animals, wildlife and farm animals, while supporting adoption and rehabilitation. The organisation helps people find suitable pets through its animal placement service and offers guidance on responsible care, emergencies and lost animals.

Its work is supported by donations, sponsorships, memberships, volunteering and in-kind contributions. Dedicated programmes assist animals with complex medical needs, dogs who have waited a long time for homes, wildlife in need and farm animals requiring sanctuary. Tierschutz Austria also provides educational activities, guided visits, training and resources for schools, families and businesses.

Beyond direct care, the organisation advocates for stronger animal protection through public campaigns and petitions, and shares information through its blog and publications. Its initiatives also encourage wildlife-friendly gardens and support animal welfare beyond the shelter.
