The Kamloops Reserve, established in 1862 under Governor James Douglas, is located east of the North Thompson River and north of the South Thompson River, adjacent to the City of Kamloops. The word Kamloops translates to Tk’emlúps in the Shuswap language, meaning where the rivers meet. For centuries, this land has been the ancestral home of the Tk’emlupsemc, also known as the people of the confluence. Tk’emlúps holds great economic importance due to its strategic location along major trade routes. With a rich history and a strong presence in our region, Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc truly represents the heritage and strength of the Secwepemc people.
