## Description

The TK Foundation is a private independent foundation founded in 2002 by J. Torben Karlshoej, also known as "T.K.", who grew up on a farm in Denmark and later established the Teekay Shipping Company, now Teekay Corporation. The foundation, based in the Bahamas, has a clear mission to fulfill the legacy of J. Torben Karlshoej. Their mission involves enabling disadvantaged youth to succeed and promoting maritime education and safety.

The foundation achieves this mission by investing in programs that empower disadvantaged youth through education, training, and life skills, helping them become self-sufficient. Additionally, they work to enhance knowledge of the seas and oceans, and strengthen maritime safety and security for the benefit of all.

The TK Foundation operates based on their core values, including providing a hand up rather than a handout. They prioritize lasting impacts that extend beyond their grants and are committed to integrity, innovation, and partnership. The foundation collaborates with grantees, other funders, and stakeholders to make a meaningful difference.
