## Description

Teatro Nacional D. Maria II is Portugal’s national theatre, based at Praça D. Pedro IV in Lisbon. Reopened in September 2026 after a major restoration and renovation, the historic venue presents a varied programme of theatre, performances, exhibitions, book launches and other cultural events. Its productions and events take place across spaces including the Sala Garrett, Sala Estúdio and Salão Nobre, as well as in venues beyond the theatre. The programme brings together new creations, adaptations of classic works and projects by Portuguese and international artists. Visitors can browse the agenda and buy tickets online, join guided tours, and explore the theatre’s bookstore, library and archive. The organisation also offers information on accessibility, its spaces and visitor services, and resources for schools and teachers. Alongside its artistic programme, Teatro Nacional D. Maria II supports cultural initiatives and emerging talent through projects such as Boca Aberta, Ocupar o Centro, PANOS and the Ageas Theatre Revelation Award. Its work combines performance, public engagement, learning and the preservation of theatre history.
