## Description

Totentanz Café is a German project that creates welcoming spaces for people to talk openly about death and dying. Launched in April 2013, it has held gatherings in cities including Bonn, Cologne, Siegburg, Berlin, Leipzig and Munich, with events taking place in cafés, pubs and other locations. Everyone is welcome, whether they are grieving, encounter death through their work, explore the subject creatively or simply want to learn more. Conversations address personal questions about loss, funerals, remembrance and what may come after death. Guests share food and drinks, and the atmosphere can include laughter as well as reflection. Inspired by Bernard Crettaz’s Café Mortel and the international Death Café movement, the project aims to make a difficult, often taboo subject easier to discuss. Totentanz Café also offers information in Easy Language and organizes themed events and workshops. Its range includes condolence cards featuring photographs by Swetlana Gasetski and quotations contributed by café guests, designed by Maya Hässig. The cards are available by post in exchange for a donation.
