## Description

Traversée du Bassin is an open-water swimming event held in the Arcachon Basin, inviting participants to cross its waters while discovering the area’s coastal scenery. The event’s history is presented as dating back to 1911, and it is operated under the registered brand Traversée du Bassin by TDB EVENTS. Its challenges include the 3.5-kilometre Bélisaire, the 10-kilometre La Pointe and L’Odyssée, described on the site as a long-distance challenge of around 17 to 18.5 kilometres. The programme also features ULTRASWIM, with certificates and regulations available to participants. Safety is a central part of the event: recent editions have included support from rescue teams and boats, with the 2026 crossing accompanied by 15 boats and 23 rescuers. The event has grown over time, attracting 157 swimmers in 2026, when the start moved to Plage des Américains and two new challenges were introduced. Traversée du Bassin combines endurance swimming with a guided experience of the basin’s distinctive waters and landscapes.
