## Description

Tropicos is a botanical information service provided by the Missouri Botanical Garden for the global scientific community. Its database connects more than 1.33 million scientific names with over 4.87 million specimen records and more than 685,000 digital images. It also offers information from over 150,000 references drawn from more than 52,600 publications, helping users explore botanical names, collections, and related literature.

Visitors can search by scientific name or use tools to find specimens, view specimen heat maps and country maps, and browse names, references, projects, and images. The site also supports collection and specimen research, with features for reviewing collection details, determinations, locations, and linked references. An ethnobotany module provides additional information and functionality. Logged-in users can create lists and customize certain search results, while an API and linking information support access and connection to Tropicos data. The service is available free of charge and is designed to make botanical information more accessible for research and discovery.
