About

Description

Turlock Scavenger is a pioneering brand in the refuse industry, offering reliable waste management services to the city of Turlock and surrounding communities in Stanislaus County. The company has a rich history that dates back to 1935 when Leo Poggi, an Italian immigrant, started the operations. As the city grew, so did the demand for garbage pickup, prompting Leo to sell ownership to his sons-in-law, Howard Sisco and Jesse Marchant, in 1948.

Under Jesse's leadership, Turlock Scavenger expanded and built a transfer station in 1967, enabling more efficient waste consolidation and transfer to the Geer Road Landfill. Throughout the years, Turlock Scavenger has been at the forefront of innovation. They introduced their first recycling program in the late 1950s, picking up cardboard under the name Turlock Carton Press.

They implemented rear container pick up in the early 1960s and frontloader trucks in 1970. In 1992, they pioneered the first weekly three-can automated pickup service in California, and in 2011, they started utilizing Natural Gas (CNG) trucks, demonstrating their commitment to environmental stewardship and reducing emissions. Turlock Scavenger remains dedicated to providing high-quality waste management services and being a positive influence in the community
