## Description

The ESCAP/WMO Typhoon Committee (TC) is a prominent intergovernmental organization founded in 1968, dedicated to mitigating the impacts of typhoons across Asia and the Pacific. Operating under the combined auspices of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the TC's mission encompasses enhancing regional collaboration in meteorology, hydrology, and disaster risk reduction.

The Committee brings together 14 member states to foster a comprehensive response to typhoon hazards, striving to minimize loss of life and economic damage. Key initiatives include training workshops, research programs, and integrated disaster management strategies, exemplified through the Working Groups on Meteorology, Hydrology, and Disaster Risk Reduction. Notable ongoing projects include the Asia-Pacific Typhoon Collaborative Research Center (AP-TCRC) and various training courses aimed at bolstering capacities in disaster risk management. By promoting knowledge sharing and regional cooperation, the Typhoon Committee plays a crucial role in enhancing resilience against typhoon-related disasters.
