About
Description
HiRISE, short for High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment, boasts the most potent camera ever deployed to another planet, specifically Mars, as part of the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter mission. Launched in 2005, it has been capturing high-resolution images of Mars since 2006, with a remarkable resolution capability of up to 30 centimeters per pixel. These images have been instrumental in helping select landing sites for robotic and future human exploration missions.
HiRISE has also recorded avalanches and unearthed intriguing dark flows that might indicate briny seeps on Mars. Led by Principal Investigator Alfred McEwen, along with Co-Investigators like Candice Hansen and Ross Beyer, the team's research spans from impact cratering to planetary surface processes and remote sensing. Hundreds of scientific papers have utilized HiRISE data, showcasing its vital role in advancing our understanding of the Red Planet
