## Description

UICN Panamá’s Technical Working Group for Mine Closure is part of the Panamanian Committee of the International Union for Conservation of Nature. It brings together professionals and volunteer members of civil society who are concerned about the effects of mining in Panama. The group works toward the safe and definitive closure of open-pit metallic mining projects throughout the country, emphasizing processes that are orderly and transparent.

Its work reflects the view that responsible mine closure is essential to help prevent irreversible harm to the environment and the health of nearby communities. The group also believes that better development opportunities exist for Panama. Supported by volunteer professionals, it provides a collaborative forum focused on the challenges and importance of closing mines safely. UICN Panamá’s website offers a repository of important documents related to the group’s work and provides contact information for inquiries. Through this focus on mine closure, the organization seeks to support informed discussion and action on the environmental and community impacts associated with metallic mining in Panama.
