## Description

**Brand Name: Understorey Magazine**

Understorey Magazine is a dedicated platform operating from Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, with a mission to celebrate and highlight the diverse life experiences of women, non-binary, and genderqueer writers and artists across Canada. Launched in November 2013 as a project of the Second Story Women’s Centre, the magazine has evolved through partnerships, notably with the Alexa McDonough Institute for Women, Gender and Social Justice.

Understorey focuses on publishing original literary prose, poetry, and visual art, engaging deeply with themes such as motherhood, justice, age, and the representation of underrepresented voices. Each publication aims to inspire and encourage both established and emerging creatives while maintaining a broadly feminist perspective that is both inclusive and empowering. Available 2-3 times a year, Understorey Magazine not only nurtures artistic expression but also seeks to illuminate stories that resonate with empathy and understanding, creating a beautiful and accessible venue for artistic exploration.
