## Description

Unique Connections is a specialist organisation dedicated to improving the lives of people with learning disabilities who experience self-injury or other forms of distress. It also supports the teams and organisations around them, including schools and care homes. The organisation focuses particularly on people with little or no spoken communication, helping staff understand distress as a response to a person’s experiences rather than making assumptions about its cause.

Its services include specialist self-injury support, individual distress assessments and tailored support plans, and a Distress Recovery Journey. Unique Connections also provides training, advice, consultancy, reflective practice and organisational support. Topics include emotional regulation, connection, loss and bereavement, trauma-informed care, and responding to self-injury. Online courses and resources extend its learning offer, alongside podcasts and materials such as Unspoken Stories.

Working collaboratively with individuals, frontline teams and leaders, Unique Connections aims to identify the underlying causes of distress and equip people with practical, compassionate approaches.
