Description
United Way of Central Virginia is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality of lives in Central Virginia. Our mission is to mobilize the compassionate power of our community to advance Health, Education, Income, and Basic Human Needs. We achieve this by supporting a wide range of programs, services, and collaborations.
In terms of education, we focus on providing opportunities for youth to succeed in school. We also work towards stabilizing families through programs that address hunger, improve housing stability, and reduce domestic violence. Furthermore, we strive to enhance healthcare accessibility for individuals of all ages, promoting good health and wellness.
The roots of United Way can be traced back to 1887 in Denver, Colorado, where the concept of collective fundraising and community planning first emerged. United Way in Central Virginia was established in 1921 as the Lynchburg Community Chest and has since evolved to serve the entire region as United Way of Central Virginia. By joining forces with volunteers, community leaders, businesses, government agencies, and service organizations, we are creating positive change and transforming lives.
Together, we can be the change our community needs. Contact us at United Way of Central Virginia for more information on how you can get involved and contribute to building a better future
