## Description

Universitatea Cluj, commonly known as “U” or the Red Caps, is a football club from Cluj-Napoca, Romania. Founded by students in 1919, the club has a long history in Romanian football and represents a strong connection with the city’s university community and supporters. Its traditional identity is reflected in its black-and-white striped colors and the red caps associated with its fans.

The club’s honours include the 1965 Romanian Cup, its only major trophy mentioned here, and two league runner-up finishes; it has never won the national championship. After periods of change and hardship, Universitatea Cluj was re-established in 2016. The team plays its home matches at Cluj Arena, a stadium opened in 2011 with a capacity of about 30,000. Its sporting activities include competing in Romania’s top division, fielding squads across the season and contesting the local Cluj derby against CFR Cluj. The club is jointly associated with Cluj-Napoca City Hall, Babeș-Bolyai University and its supporters, rather than having a single owner.
