United Nations University (UNU) is a global think tank and postgraduate teaching organization headquartered in Japan. Its mission is to contribute to resolving pressing global problems of human survival, development, and welfare through collaborative research and education. UNU works closely with leading universities and research institutes in UN Member States, serving as a bridge between the international academic community and the United Nations system.

UNU is organized under the leadership of the Rector, who is responsible for the direction, organization, administration, and programs of the University. The UNU Council formulates the principles and policies that govern the University's operations and approves its budget and work program. With 13 institutes located in 12 countries, UNU maintains close working relationships with other UN agencies and organizations.

Founded in 1975, UNU has grown to establish research and training institutes worldwide, focusing on three thematic clusters: Peace and Governance, Global Development and Inclusion, and Environment, Climate, and Energy. UNU continues to expand its global institutional network and postgraduate programs, attracting leading academics and graduate students who can address the current pressing issues facing the international community.
