UN-Water is the coordination mechanism for the United Nations' work on water and sanitation. With over 30 United Nations organizations involved in water and sanitation programs, UN-Water ensures that these issues are addressed across all main focus areas. UN-Water has three main lines of work: informing policy processes and addressing emerging issues, supporting monitoring and reporting on water and sanitation, and building knowledge and inspiring action.
UN-Water's Members and Partners played a crucial role in placing water and sanitation at the heart of milestone agreements like the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Paris Agreement. UN-Water is governed by the UN-Water Senior Programme Managers and supported by the UN-Water Management Team. Implementation of UN-Water's work is primarily carried out through its Members and Partners.
External support agencies, known as donors, contribute to the implementation of UN-Water's work through long-term partnerships. With a rich history dating back to 1977, UN-Water has made significant strides in addressing water and sanitation challenges, contributing to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda
