## Description

The W.E. Upjohn Institute for Employment Research, established in 1945, is a private, nonpartisan, and independent research organization based in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The Institute specializes in policy-related issues concerning employment and unemployment, with a focus on labor markets. Their research addresses the causes of unemployment, the impact of social safety net programs, education and training systems, and the influence of economic development policies on local labor markets.

The Institute's mission is fulfilled through the dissemination of research and direct services. The Center for Workforce Innovation and Solutions administers federal and state-funded employment and training programs for disadvantaged and dislocated workers in Southwest Michigan. Additionally, the Institute benefits from a generous endowment established by William Erastus Upjohn, which enables long-term sustainability and the freedom to research and experiment with innovative approaches. The Institute aims to serve policymakers, researchers, and advocates by providing valuable insights that can inform effective decision-making in the realm of employment and labor market issues.
