Description

Upstate AHEC (Area Health Education Center) is a non-profit, community-based organization dedicated to connecting students to health careers, healthcare professionals to communities, and communities to better health. Serving eleven counties in South Carolina's northwestern quadrant, including Abbeville, Anderson, Edgefield, Greenville, Greenwood, Laurens, McCormick, Oconee, Pickens, Saluda, and Spartanburg, Upstate AHEC was formed in 2001 through the merger of Upper Savannah AHEC, Greenville AHEC, and Spartanburg AHEC. Funded by a combination of federal, state, and local dollars, Upstate AHEC offers a range of programs and services to address the needs of its target region.

These include recruiting and preparing underrepresented minority and disadvantaged students for health professions, developing and supporting community-based interdisciplinary training for health professions students in underserved areas, and providing continuing education and other services to improve the quality of community-based care. With a vision to build a skilled and diverse healthcare workforce, Upstate AHEC is guided by core values of integrity, service, dedication, and excellence. They aim to bridge the gap in healthcare disparities by providing opportunities and resources that empower individuals and enhance the overall well-being of communities
