## Description

Upstate Karate is a family-owned martial arts school in Simpsonville, South Carolina, serving the Upstate region since 1983. Operated by the Thompson family, including martial artist Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson, the dojo offers instruction for children and adults at beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels. Its teaching emphasizes practical self-defense, confidence, discipline, mental toughness, and resolving conflicts peacefully.

Alongside regular karate training, Upstate Karate provides an after-school program where children can stay active and build life skills in a structured setting. The school also hosts children’s birthday parties featuring introductory martial arts activities and runs summer camps for children and teens, combining karate with other activities. Its approximately 20,000-square-foot facility includes 6,000 square feet of mat space, a kickboxing ring, a training cage, workout and heavy-bag areas, showers, dressing rooms, and a dedicated after-school space with reading and school materials. Upstate Karate presents itself as a welcoming environment for families and students seeking martial arts instruction, fitness, and personal development.
