## Description

Upstream is a forward-thinking organization dedicated to addressing health inequalities through community-driven journalism. Founded by Maren Wilczek and Sören Engels in 2021, Upstream serves as a platform where they explore how socio-economic factors contribute to health disparities and advocate for fair healthcare for all. The Upstream newsletter engages with a diverse community to investigate pressing health issues, propose solutions, and highlight the voices of experts who influence health policy reform.

Their work emphasizes the interconnections between health and socio-political issues, including the impact of poverty on life expectancy, the necessity for inclusive health policies, and the need to combat racism within healthcare systems. Through collaboration with researchers and community members, Upstream fosters informed conversations about health equity, aiming to bridge the gap between healthcare access and quality. With a growing membership base of 758 supporters, Upstream is committed to transparency, quality journalism, and empowering individuals to advocate for a healthier, more equitable society.
