## Description

Urban RPG was a browser-based, text-driven multiplayer role-playing game created by Random Ramble Pty Ltd in Melbourne, Australia. Set in a harsh urban world of gangs, street life and shifting loyalties, it invited players to build reputations, pursue wealth and power, and shape their own fortunes. Players could trade, race cars, sell drugs, take part in rivalries, and join or create gangs. Cooperation and competition were central: players might unite around shared goals, then turn against one another for personal gain. The game’s persistent world fostered an international community and encouraged alliances, rivalries and reputation-building.

Urban was hand-coded by its creator while he was in high school, with art and design contributed by collaborator Rob in the UK. It received MPOGD Game of the Month recognition in May 2006 and remained on the open web for nine years. Random Ramble retired the game in 2012, explaining that it could no longer give the product the attention it deserved.
