## Description

USN Destroyers is an informational website within the MuseumShips.us network, dedicated to the history and development of United States Navy destroyers and related vessels. Its pages are organized around major ship classes, including Fletcher, Allen M. Sumner, and Gearing, as well as destroyer escorts and the Norfolk class. The site also features a page on USS Norfolk (DL-1).

Alongside its class-based navigation, the website introduces the destroyer’s purpose and changing role in naval warfare. It explains how these fast, maneuverable warships developed from vessels designed to counter torpedo boats into fleet escorts and, later, larger guided-missile combatants capable of operating independently. The introductory material places destroyers in the broader history of naval ships, describing changes in their endurance, size, and firepower over time.

USN Destroyers offers readers a focused starting point for exploring destroyer classes and naval history. Its content is presented as educational reference material, with links directing visitors to individual class and ship topics.
