## Description

Upper Wharfedale Field Society is a community-focused organisation that helps people enjoy and understand the landscapes, wildlife, history and heritage of Upper Wharfedale and the wider Yorkshire Dales. Through talks, walks, field visits and member-contributed articles, the Society offers opportunities to learn about the area and explore it alongside others. Its special interest groups cover archaeology, botany, geology, ornithology, and local history and vernacular buildings. Activities range from studying archaeological sites and the forces that shaped the landscape to identifying plants and birds, visiting local places, and investigating the area’s buildings, industries and social history. The Botany Group holds seasonal meetings at sites in the Dales and further afield, while the Ornithology Group focuses on enjoying local birds and improving recognition of their appearance and calls. The Society also publishes reports and news, maintains a calendar of events, and welcomes enquiries from prospective members and visitors. People are invited to attend winter talks or join the Society to deepen their appreciation of Upper Wharfedale.
