Voices for Virginia's Children is an independent, multi-issue child policy and advocacy organization that champions public policies and legislation to achieve positive and equitable outcomes for young people in Virginia. Established in 1994, their mission is to improve the lives of children in the state by advancing effective public policies. As the home of the KIDS COUNT data center for Virginia, Voices for Virginia's Children provides comprehensive and up-to-date information on child well-being through over 200 state- and locality-level indicators. Utilizing this data and conducting independent policy research, they identify unmet needs and threats to child well-being, propose evidence-based policy solutions, and offer objective input to policymakers.
Additionally, they educate and mobilize leaders and concerned citizens to support policy initiatives. Focused on children whose needs are often overlooked, Voices for Virginia's Children concentrates its efforts on policies related to early childhood, foster care and adoption, health and mental health, and family economic security. Their impactful work benefits children, youth, and families throughout Virginia. Voices for Virginia's Children has made a significant difference in the state, including expanding access to pre-K for disadvantaged four-year-olds and increasing legislative support for the Virginia Preschool Initiative.
Moreover, more children from low-income families now have access to appropriate child care, enabling their parents to remain employed and on the path to self-sufficiency.
