## Description

Valerie Tarico is a psychologist and writer who is deeply passionate about personal and social evolution. She is an insightful social commentator who dives into topics such as religious fundamentalism, gender roles, and reproductive empowerment. Valerie has authored two thought-provoking books that approach these subjects from different angles. Her book Trusting Doubt: A Former Evangelical Looks at Old Beliefs in a New Light offers a rational and moral critique of biblical Christianity, presenting alternative ways of thinking that align with our understanding of ourselves and the world around us. Deas and Other Imaginings is a fascinating collection of folktales that blend magic, beauty, resilience, and self-discovery. Originally written for her daughters, these stories captivate readers of all ages. Valerie's writing extends beyond books, with over 450 thought-provoking articles published on various news and opinion sites. Her areas of expertise include religious and cultural issues, and her work has been featured on platforms such as the Huffington Post, Jezebel, Salon, and AlterNet, among others. Valerie's contributions to society expand beyond writing, as she also focuses on improving birth timing and spacing, empowering young men and women to build resilience, and advocating for intentional parenthood. Her ultimate goal is to create a world where young people can form families at the right time, with someone they love and have the support they need. Valerie serves on the board of Advocates for Youth and is a founding member of Resilient Generation, a Seattle-based advocacy hub. She envisions a future where surprise pregnancy and related abortion become virtually non-existent, thanks to advancements in contraception. With a Ph.D. She has also co-founded organizations such as the Progress Alliance of Washington, which supports progressive change, and WisdomCommons.org, an interactive site that explores virtues across different traditions. Valerie Tarico's YouTube channel, AwayPoint, is a valuable resource for recovering Evangelicals and offers insights into the psychology of biblical Christian belief. Whether through her writing, advocacy, or speaking engagements, Valerie Tarico is dedicated to igniting intellectual curiosity and fostering social change.
