Initially created to address the Internet access problem in the region, ValleyNet provided local dial-up access to over 6,000 households and established local listservs that served over 25,000 users across 20 towns. As the technology progressed, ValleyNet made the strategic decision to sell its dial-up accounts and focus on its mission through other means.

This led to the partnership with ECFiber in 2008, a municipally owned and controlled organization aimed at improving broadband services. Since then, ValleyNet has been ECFiber's trusted partner in designing, building, and operating their fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network. By 2015, the locally funded effort covered over 300 miles of roads and served over 1,500 customers.

With continuous expansion, ECFiber has raised significant capital, connected thousands of customers, and expanded its network to over 1,200 miles.
