## Description

The Building and Plumbing Commission (BPC) is Victoria’s regulator for the building and plumbing industries. It works to protect consumers, support practitioners and strengthen confidence in the state’s building system. Its services cover homeowners, builders, plumbers, owner-builders and building surveyors, with information and support tailored to each group.

The BPC manages practitioner registration and licensing, including applications, renewals and credential checks. Consumers can search its database for a builder’s or plumber’s current status, conditions and compliance history. The commission also provides guidance, technical advice, educational resources and practical tools to help people understand their responsibilities and meet required standards.

For building and plumbing concerns, the BPC offers issue-screening guidance and support with complaints and domestic building disputes, including information about dispute resolution. It administers Home Warranty and Domestic Building Insurance for eligible domestic building work, and monitors compliance with relevant laws through assessment and regulatory action. The BPC also works to improve Victoria’s regulatory system and publishes news, guidance and resources for practitioners and the community.
