## Description

VCI™ is a voluntary coalition of public and private organizations committed to empowering individuals with access to verifiable clinical information. They offer trustworthy and verifiable copies of vaccination records in digital or paper form using open, interoperable standards. The scope of VCI™ is to harmonize the standards and support the development of implementation guides for issuing, sharing, and validating vaccination records. By utilizing VCI™, individuals can safely return to work, school, and travel by using their verifiable credentials for medical purposes. One of their key offerings is the SMART Health Card, which stores healthcare information and other vital medical data. The SMART Health Cards framework aims to improve the privacy and security of patient information, make medical records portable, and reduce healthcare fraud. Participating organizations within VCI™ commit to implementing the SMART Health Card Framework and providing vaccination records directly to individuals through compatible digital wallets or PDF and paper formats with QR codes. VCI™ is guided by core design principles of openness, interoperability, transparency, privacy by design, flexibility, and equitable access. Verifiers within the VCI™ ecosystem adhere to a code of conduct to protect and interpret SMART Health Cards correctly. The coalition is governed by a Steering Group composed of representatives from renowned organizations such as Mayo Clinic, Microsoft, and Apple.
