## Description

The Veterinary Council of Tanzania (VCT) is a government body operating under Tanzania’s Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries. Based in Dodoma, it oversees the country’s animal health profession and supports the regulation of veterinary practitioners and services. Its responsibilities include registering veterinarians and veterinary paraprofessionals, issuing professional licences, and registering animal health service facilities, including veterinary clinics, hospitals, laboratories, quarantine centres and mobile services. The Council also recognises veterinary training institutions and administers qualifying examinations for professionals and paraprofessionals, including graduates trained abroad.

VCT provides information and resources to practitioners and the public through its website, including laws, regulations, forms, guidelines, assessment tools, strategic plans and continuing professional development information. It publishes lists of registered professionals and facilities, and offers channels for questions, feedback, enquiries and complaints. The Council also shares public notices, news and updates about examinations, registration and veterinary events. Through these regulatory, educational and information services, VCT works to oversee animal health practice and promote accountable veterinary services in Tanzania.
