## Description

The Verband Deutscher Bürgschaftsbanken (VDB) is the national association representing Germany’s guarantee banks and Mittelständische Beteiligungsgesellschaften (MBGen). Founded in Bonn in 1990, the VDB brings together 17 guarantee banks and participation guarantee companies, as well as 15 MBGen. Its Berlin office supports the association’s work, while the VDB represents its members’ interests to policymakers, businesses and the public, together with the BVK.

The association helps businesses and professionals understand financing options that can complement traditional bank lending. Guarantee banks provide guarantees that serve as security for lending banks, supporting access to credit and participation financing. MBGen offer long-term participation capital, often through equity-like silent partnerships, to strengthen the balance sheets of start-ups and small and medium-sized businesses. They do not take part in the daily management of the businesses they finance.

Through its online financing portal, users can submit a financing enquiry or guarantee request, provide documents digitally and receive suitable financing and support options.
