## Description

Associação Vida Ativa São José is a nonprofit organization based in Criciúma, Santa Catarina, providing free rehabilitation and multidisciplinary care to people with spinal cord injuries and support to their families. Founded in 2006, it was created to help people continue rehabilitation after leaving hospital, close to home and at no cost. Its dedicated facility brings together medical consultations, nursing and physiotherapy spaces, and areas for connection and social participation.

The association’s services include specialist care in orthopedics, neurology, urology and general medicine; intensive physiotherapy focused on functional recovery, mobility and preventing complications; nursing care, including treatment of pressure ulcers; psychological support; nutrition guidance; and social assistance to help users access rights and benefits and reconnect with their communities. Families and caregivers are also supported throughout rehabilitation.

Vida Ativa relies on donations and volunteers to sustain its services, and invites people to contribute, volunteer or direct part of their income tax to social projects. Its initiatives include Tigres Sobre Rodas, a wheelchair basketball team that promotes rehabilitation, belonging and autonomy.
