## Description

The Società Storica Vigevanese is a nonprofit volunteer organization founded in 1991 to promote knowledge of Vigevano and the Lomellina area through historical and cultural research. It works to study and showcase the region’s historical and artistic heritage, supporting research, critical analysis, preservation, and public access to local history.

Its publications include Viglevanum, the society’s journal of historical and artistic studies, as well as research monographs and the Biblioteca series. The organization also provides online resources and biographies of notable Vigevanese figures. Its specialist library, housed at the historic Palazzo Merula, focuses on general, local, and art history and is available to members and visiting researchers.

The society maintains an archive of popular writing, collecting and preserving manuscripts such as letters, diaries, and memoirs as valuable sources of collective memory. It also supports study commissions and projects on local traditions, including food culture. Through membership, publications, its library, archives, and research activities, the Società Storica Vigevanese invites the public to explore and value the area’s past.
