## Description

Vigilia Romana Vindriacum is a historical reenactment association founded in 1997 in Wintrich, Germany. Its aim is to present Roman life in the early imperial period as accurately and thoughtfully as available research allows, while acknowledging that only selected aspects can be shown and that some details remain unknown. The group began with a focus on the Roman military, inspired by performances in Wintrich’s Passion Plays, and continues to portray soldiers and their commanders at historical festivals and museum events. Its military displays also include a reconstruction of a scorpio, a Roman artillery weapon.

The association’s programme extends beyond military life. Members explore ancient transport through an amphora experiment examining how wine travelled over long distances and in large quantities. They demonstrate Roman surveying and measurement, explaining how roads and aqueducts were planned, and use models to compare ancient and modern viticulture in the Moselle region. Their presentations also cover handcraft, including techniques that shaped women’s daily lives in antiquity.
