Established in 2007, this winery is situated just south of Charlottesville, Virginia, in the former Montdomaine Winery. Originally, Michael Shaps Wineworks focused on producing the existing Michael Shaps brand and a value-oriented line of Virginia wines called Wineworks.

However, in response to market demand, they expanded into contract winemaking, providing independent growers with the opportunity to create their own unique wine brands. Over the years, their customer base has expanded, and they now serve clients from Tennessee to Delaware. Recognized as a leader in the region, Michael Shaps Wineworks has continuously grown its production capacity, with the ability to produce up to 30,000 cases of wine.

In addition to their winery location, they have acquired a warehouse nearby, which serves as a bottling facility and a charming neighborhood wine bar and taphouse. In 2022, they purchased the former Thatch winery, expanding their production space and offering a picturesque tasting room with ample outdoor seating.
