## Description

Virtual Jamestown is a digital research, teaching, and learning project focused on the Jamestown settlement and the broader “Virginia experiment.” Through its online archive, the project provides a resource for exploring the settlement’s historical legacy and its place in the development of Virginia and the nation. It is intended to support scholarly research as well as teaching and learning, bringing historical material and perspectives together in a digital format for a wide audience.

Described as a work in progress, Virtual Jamestown was developed to contribute to public discussion surrounding the four-hundred-year anniversary observance of the founding of the Jamestown colony in 2007. Its subject matter connects the history of the colony with the enduring questions and consequences associated with the Virginia experiment. The project is credited to Crandall Shifflett, and its archive is available at virtualjamestown.org. Virtual Jamestown is therefore both a historical resource and an educational project, offering users a place to investigate the settlement’s legacy and engage with its significance through digital materials.
