## Description

A Vision of Britain through Time is an online historical resource created by the University of Portsmouth and its partners. It brings together maps, statistics and historical writing to help users explore life in Britain and Ireland from 1801 to the present, with some historical accounts dating back to 1188. Visitors can search for places and investigate subjects including population, social structure, industry, work, poverty, housing, education, language, religion and political life. The site offers historical gazetteer searches, regional statistics and an expert search for researchers seeking information about places and administrative areas. Its statistical atlas enables comparisons of data across the country, while its map collection contains nearly 300 historic map sheets dating from 1803 to 1985. The historical writing collection features accounts by travellers, artisans and agitators, including works by John Wesley and Arthur Young. The site also provides teaching resources and maps examining recent changes, including comparisons of local data before and during the Brexit and Covid-19 periods.
