## Description

The Data Project is a U.S. vital records and genealogy resource guide that helps people explore family history through public records and name research. Its resources cover first names, surnames, births, marriages, divorces, and deaths, offering historical context and searchable information to support family-history research. The baby names section includes more than 113,000 first names used in the United States since 1880, with popularity by year and state, along with name origins, histories, and meanings. Surname resources draw on Social Security Administration records and explore meanings, ethnic and language origins, geographic distribution, and migration patterns.

For family-history research, the site provides information on more than 87 million birth and death records, including names, dates, age at death, and last known location. It also features historical New York City vital record indexes and Texas marriage and divorce records, with details such as spouses, dates, and counties. Additional articles explain how to use records and build a documented family history.
